Cool Guild Wars the series

well this was origanally posted http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10150045
but i thought this was a more riverside topic than sardelic so i want to see what you all think.

You all remeber the Proph and Factions preview cinematics and how cool as hell it was well i would love to see anet make a series that follows Devona and Co. throught their advetures using these graphics. this would be great cause you could further get a feel for the charecters and delve deeper into the story. also this would provide more after you beat the game and make us GW fanboys very very happy.

Why would anet do this, well profit. if they sell these on dvd, the first dvd being proph, second being factions, third NF, and fourth being GWEN. these dvds would sell like hotcakes to the poeple who play gw but there is also a greater benifit. some people who dont play GW might see these and pick them up, more profits. also the people who get this might see it and want to play GW, WAY more profit.

now i know this would not be cheap to make but anet could reduce costs with ads and such.

well what do you guys think?

There's a big difference between the personnel and monetary resources needed to market and sell real world merch and doing CGI or game engine movies.

yes tehre is a diff but this is just an idea please post if you would like this or not, not if anet could do it or not, cause last time i checked you dont work at anet >.<. not to be mean or anything but anet has done somethings that i didnt think was possible so really this is not a discusion of economics as much as concept.

I'd rather spill my money on a game, then on a dvd with cinematics. Also you know what happens to dvd's right? They make it to the internet ^^

An idea/concept and whether you would like it or not, that sounds like a suggestion to be confined to Sardelic....

Whether or not this idea was possible/financially feasible would be a discussion more appropriate for Riverside, but you don't want to bother talking about that....

Saleability aside, Anet don't have the internal resources to produce this in-house. Not that they ever would. Guild Wars is already a niche game, and we can assume this product is marketable only to a niche of that player base. There's no money in it.

I was under the impression that those cinematic sequences were developed by NCSOFT, and not Anet anyway. If that's the case, then that would suggest that Anet doesn't even have a team for that sort of thing.

For reference:

The CGI was always outsourced, and NCSoft is normally the one that does the marketing.

------------------

A series could work if they let a production company take up the job. And that is if any of them are interested in running with the idea.

If Anet did something like this, they would hire a 3rd party team to work on it. They don't have enough time to do this, along with GW:EN ,GW2, and updates to the game currently.

One word.

Guild Wars: NOVELS

I would LOVE to see books based on stories of the heroes of Ascalon, Cantha and Elona.

The various NPCs are interesting and we really dont know enough about them. Some have some prominent personalities and would fit well in books or maybe even Graphic Novels.

This would help fill in the gaps of lore, as well flesh out the Guild Wars universe to help create a more rich environment

It could attract non-gamers to the franchise as well.

Considering they never even bothered to do a cinematic for Nightfall, I doubt that they would be willing to do something that would be even more indepth.

I don't think we will even see one for GWEN.

Love the idea. Should be sold with the GW 2/GW:EN CE though.

Yeah instead of focusing on making a game, they should focus on.. um.. making fancy cinimatics? Genius!

Believe it or not, Novels are a wonderful low-budget method to churn profit for any mmorpg, since the days of DiabloII.

I would definitely see it work for Guild Wars (considering the canon story told thus far in the game, does leave a rather large room for imagination.....)
